I would tend to think that training only meets the needs of brains/mind, be it religious seminar / workshop / routine worship activities. What is more important is the HEART.

The brain absorbs knowledge but it is the heart that prompts someone to act on what s/he believes. And if we can combine both Heart and Mind, then we will get the best of both sides.

Someone who is stupid enough but has a fearful heart towards his God and HIS commandments will live in proper obedient and avoid sinful acts.

On the other hand, someone who is clever enough but has not fearful heart towards his God and HIS commandments will justify all his sinful acts as the right things to do.

From "marketing/business standpoint", what ESQ has been doing is truly amazing. Like what u said, their strategy is unique and therefore, marketable. Big applaud for their ability to "sell and commercialize" religious principals. Yet, from "effectiveness standpoint", we doubt it.

Study after study prove that without intensive follow up and long, systematic monitoring, any kinds of training -- esq included -- will be just 'one shot event'. And after three months....gone with the wind.

So, speaking of spirituality management, I believe the management practice of "Jama'ah Tabligh" is much more powerful than ESQ. They truly apply 'spirituality management' into their daily life. Yeah, hopefully many managers/CEOs here can someday join with Jamaah Tabligh - spending three days or three months walking around the world to do "dakwah Islamiyah". Wow, this will be wonderful for our corporate life.

ahh ESQ training.. unfortunately i dont really have deep knowledge on that. Maybe u should write about it =p. Religious teaching vs business practice, is it commercialization of religion or religious-based business?

But I have to admit the strategy used by ESQ is unique and proven to be successful, at least in this part of the world where people still respect religious teaching. What about the fact that they make money by 'repackage' and 'selling' religion-based teaching? I dont mind if it's what it takes to wipe out corruption in Indonesia =p.

Well, I am also a bit sceptical about the practice of spirituality mangement here. See, many thousands people have attended ESQ training (and they cry a lot confessing their great sins during those four days of "unforgettable seminar event") ....and yet, we still witness massive moral disintegrity here and there.

Some people also cynically say, "haji dan umroh berkali-kali, korupsi tak kunjung henti....."
